Mary Testa to Star in Asolo Rep's THE BRILLIANT DIVORCE, 6/26-7/14 (6/17/2013) - Is laughter really the best medicine? The popular adage is put to the test in this hysterically funny, one-woman tour de force about picking up the pieces of a broken heart and beginning life again, My Brilliant Divorce. In its only second major American regional production, Asolo Rep's Producing Artistic Director Michael Donald Edwards directs celebrated Broadway star Mary Testa, a two-time Tony Award nominee, as Angela, the 40-something housewife blindsided by her philandering husband's desertion in Aron's engaging, mid-life crisis comedy.

Suncoast AIDS Theatre Project Stages BLOWN BY THE WIND Tonight (6/17/2013) - Suncoast AIDS Theatre Project is celebrating its 11-Year Anniversary with their Annual 'Prelude to Pride' salute with an original adaptation by T. Scott Wooten entitled BLOWN BY THE WIND; a hilarious and naughty sendup of the fabled classic film 'Gone With The Wind'. This 'Wind' is just in time for St. Petersburg Pride Celebration so come join the fun, following Scarlett, Rhett and her friends as they recall a civilization, blown by the wind.

Yesterdayze! to Kick off Van Wezel Performing Arts' Friday Fest, 6/21 (6/14/2013) - The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall is set to put on the first Friday Fest of the summer, on June 21 from 5-9pm. Kicking off the summer series is Yesterdayze! Playing a groovy mix of 1960s tunes, the Yesterdayze know how to get the crowd singing! From the authentic outfits to the superb musical talent, this 'Flower Power Happy Hour' will keep you partying all night long and leave you and your friends in a 'Yesterdayze!' Be sure to bring a blanket or chair, and a good pair of dancing shoes, or feet! There will be local vendors with food and drink for sale, so bring your appetites as well. Vendors will include: Mattison's On The Bay, J&J Bar-B-Que, Snack It To Me!, Tasty Takeout, TCBY, SRQ Pizza, Suncoast Food Trucks, Sweet Doctors, and Lemonbar!

FST to Present 5th Annual Sarasota Improv Festival, 7/12-13 (6/13/2013) - After the snowbirds have gone and the sun is searing, the 5th Annual Sarasota Improv Festival returns on July 12 and 13 for two nights of non-stop comedy with 16 of the hottest groups on the national improv scene. Acts from Chicago, Boston, Austin, Miami, Atlanta and everywhere in between will perform on the Cabaret stage in the festival that Sarasota Magazine called "high-energy" and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune called "hilarious." Pricing varies, with passes available for the weekend at $59, nightly at $49, individual shows at $10/each, and Special Event tickets at $25. Workshops are also on sale and are $29 for a two hour session with a professional improv group. Manatee Performing Arts Center Presents DISNEY'S CINERELLA KIDS, 6/22 (6/12/2013) - Polish up your glass slippers! The Prince is having a ball at the Manatee Performing Arts Center on Saturday June 22 at 2 pm. The Manatee Players' Junior Theatre Camp will present DISNEY'S CINDERELLA KIDS for one performance as the showcase for their two week summer camp.

THE UNDERPANTS to Open 6/28 at Florida Studio Theatre (6/6/2013) - Florida Studio Theatre is pleased to present the playful comedy, The Underpants, by Carl Sternheim and adapted by Steve Martin, beginning Friday, June 28, 2013 at 8:00pm in the Keating Theatre. For the first time in 13 years of production, Gorilla Theatre has solicited scripts by young authors from the entire state of Florida, not just the immediate tri-county area as in the past.

Asolo Rep Sponsors Tap Factor Community Workshops with Christopher Erk (6/5/2013) - Asolo Repertory Theatre today announced it is sponsoring a series of Tap Factor community workshops for local students that explore the art of tap dancing. Led by Christopher Erk, Tap Factor founder, with the support of Anthony J. Russo, two master tappers from the cast of Noah Racey's PULSE, the local Tap Factor workshops take place over the span of this week and next, culminating with a group performance by participants immediately following theSaturday, June 15 matinee in the Mertz Theatre.

Melinda Sullivan Replaces Frances Bradley in Asolo Rep's PULSE, Now Through 6/16 (6/5/2013) - Asolo Repertory Theatre today announced that Melinda Sullivan, a Top Ten finalist from Season 7 of Fox Television's popular reality competition show, So You Think You Can Dance, has joined the cast of Noah Racey's PULSE. Sullivan replaces Frances Bradley, who left the show on June 2 due to an injury. Sullivan's first appearance is the evening of June 4. She is scheduled to perform through the remainder of the run, which ends June 16.
